Pokemon Yellow was my first handheld game ever and I thought that to be fitting enough to give it my First Throwback Thursday review.
Pokemon Yellow came out September 12th, 1998 and is still played to this very date. The game was developed by game freak and published by Nintendo. It was an enhanced version of earlier Pokemon games Blue and Red. Its full name Pokemon: Special Pikachu Edition referred to the fact that Pikachu started off as your main Pokemon at the beginning of the game instead of the original
three from previous games.
Pikachu was also different from all other Pokemon because he followed behind the player and even had a personality. If the trainer looked at Pikachu and pressed A a picture of Pikachu would appear on the screen and show what kind of mood Pikachu was in. If the trainer constantly leveled up Pikachu and didn't faint Pikachu would grow to love the trainer, but the opposite was true if the player ignored Pikachu or had him faint often.
Other then Pikachu the game contained the other original 151 Pokemon. Once you have your Pikachu at your side you set off to capture new Pokemon and defeat gyms in order to earn badges. Along the way defeat the evil team rocket in order to keep them from stealing Pokemon. At the end of your quest of defeating Gyms for badges you travel to defeat the Elite Four. These are harder then average trainers with Pokemon that are tough to beat. once you defeat him you are the champion, but don't stop there because there's a bit more to do.
Once you defeat the elite four there's a few things you can do before you think you've finished everything. One of the main things is go catch MewTwo. MewTwo is a powerful Pokemon and is the most legendary at the time the game came out. He can only be sought after once the Elite four is done and is hidden. Lastly there is finishing your Pokedex, there are also three other legendary Pokemon to find.
I hope you enjoyed the review and remember, " Gotta Catch Them All!"
